- Ayaz received his education from Lawrence College Murree before joining the Pakistan Military Academy as a cadet officer. He served in the Pakistan Army, reaching the rank of Captain.

- Initially associated with the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Ayaz later shifted to the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) during the 1980s and 2000s. Notably, he left the PPP during its time in power and joined the PML-N during its opposition phase.
