Early Life and Education:
- Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi was born on November 1, 1945, in Gujrat, Punjab, into the esteemed industrialist Chaudhry Manzoor Elahi Warraich’s family. He belongs to the influential Warriach clan of Punjabi Jats.
- He received his early education at Forman Christian College in Lahore and obtained a Diploma in Industrial Management from Watford College of Technology.
Political Career:
- Elahi’s political journey began when he was elected as the chairman of the district council of Gujrat in 1983.
- He served as the Provincial Minister for Local Government and Rural Development for eight years, from 1985 to 1993.
- Elected multiple times to the Provincial Assembly of Punjab, he also assumed the role of acting leader of the opposition from 1993 to 1996.
- Currently, he serves as the Speaker of the Provincial Assembly of Punjab, a position he has held since August 2018.
- Nominating Pervez Elahi as Chief Minister:
- In March 2022, Imran Khan, the Prime Minister of Pakistan, nominated Pervez Elahi as a candidate for the post of Chief Minister of Punjab after the incumbent, Usman Buzdar, resigned.
