Wasif Ali Wasif, a prominent figure from Pakistan, was a versatile personality known as a teacher, writer, poet, and wali sufi.

Early Life and Education:

  • Born into the Awaan family, Wasif Ali Wasif was the son of Malik Muhammad Arif Awaan. He spent his formative years in Khushab, a tehsil in the district of Shahpur.
  • He received his early education in Khushab and later pursued his matriculation, intermediate, and bachelor’s degrees in Jhang, achieving first division honors.
  • Apart from excelling academically, Wasif demonstrated prowess in sports, particularly hockey, earning numerous awards both before and during his college years.

Literary Pursuits:

  • Following his bachelor’s degree from Islamia College, Lahore, Wasif pursued a master’s degree in English literature. During this time, he contributed to the college magazine named “Ravi,” showcasing his writing skills with articles on various subjects.
  • Notably, his writings on topics like “College Miserable Life” and “Farewell Party” have endured over time.
  • Despite passing the rigorous civil service exam, Wasif opted not to pursue a career in civil service.

Establishment of Institute:

  • In 1962, Wasif Ali Wasif founded the “Lahore English College” near Anarkali in Lahore.

  • Wasif gained immense fame for his literary works and is regarded as one of the most quoted contemporary Urdu writers.
