Biography
Navjot Singh Sidhu is a former Indian cricketer turned politician and television personality. He began his international cricket career with a Test debut against West Indies in 1983 and played his last match in January 1999 against New Zealand.
Post-retirement, he became a cricket commentator and television personality. His commentary stint began with India’s 2001 tour of Sri Lanka, though it wasn’t without controversy—he was once banned by the ICC from commenting on Bangladesh matches due to inappropriate remarks.
In 2013, Sidhu appeared regularly as a guest on Comedy Nights with Kapil, later becoming a permanent guest on The Kapil Sharma Show.
He entered politics in 2004, winning the Amritsar seat on a BJP ticket. In 2016, he co-founded the Aawaaz-e-Punjab front and joined the Indian National Congress in January 2017. He was elected from Amritsar East in the 2017 Punjab Assembly elections and served as Minister of Local Government, Tourism, and Cultural Affairs in Punjab.
